Exodus 28:31-43 “Other Priestly Garments”

by

“You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD.”

Exodus 28:36 (NKJV)

The high priestly garments that Aaron wore included a hat or turban with a plate of pure gold that said: “HOLINESS TO THE LORD”. Clearly, the high priest was set apart for the LORD. He was to walk before God and be blameless.

Under the new covenant, every believer in Jesus Christ is part of a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). We have all been called to practice holiness.

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”

1 Peter 1:15–16 (NIV)

How can we do that? First, we must realize that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not our own; we’ve been bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Therefore, we should seek to glorify God in our body and spirit which belong to Him. Second, we must offer our bodies to Him and ask Him to use us for His glory. If we are tempted to sin, then we ask for His help to resist temptation and take the way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).

When we receive Jesus Christ, God makes us holy. First, He credits to us the righteousness of Christ through His blood that was shed for our sins. Then He sanctifies us by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit who works in us. We maintain this holiness by walking in the light as He is in the light. When we become aware of sin, then we confess it and look to the cross where its price was paid in full.

Holiness is within the reach of every believer in Jesus Christ. Are you ready with God’s help to be holy as He is holy?
