Exodus 29:19-37 “The Consecration Offering”

by

“Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons to be lifted up as a special offering to the LORD.”

Exodus 29:24 (NLT)

Aaron and his sons could not enter the ministry apart from sacrificing a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. The third sacrifice was a ram for the consecration (ordination) offering.

The main purpose of this offering was to ordain the priests into the ministry. Blood would be applied to Aaron and his sons–to the tip of their right ear, the thumb of their right hand, and the big toe of their right foot. This signified that their ears were dedicated to hear the voice of the LORD, their hands were dedicated to do the work of the LORD, and their feet were dedicated to walk in the way of the LORD. After this, the priests would receive the breast and thigh of the ram as their portion to eat in the LORD’s presence.

Everything to ordain Aaron and his sons into the ministry was provided for them. They did not enter the ministry by their own ambition or efforts. God chose them and provided everything they needed to serve Him.

We must remember that when God calls a person into ministry that He provides. Sometimes people strive to make things happen. But I have found that where there is much perspiration there is little inspiration. On the other hand, when God calls a person, then God makes a way and blesses the work.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

What has God called you to do? Where is He supplying grace? Where is He making provision? He will ordain your ears to hear, your hands to work, and your feet to go where He tells you to go. Now walk in the Way.
