“Through this process, the priest will purify you before the LORD, making you right with him, and you will be forgiven for any of these sins you have committed.”
Leviticus 6:7 (NLT)
Having listed the five offerings, the LORD now gives the various laws on how they were to be presented. Keep in mind that Leviticus is a kind of owner’s manual for the priests in how to do tabernacle worship. Also remember that all five of these offerings were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We are the joyous recipients of the work that Christ accomplished on the cross. We are not right, but God has made provision for us if we will confess our sins and accept Christ’s provision for them. How often should we confess? As often as we are convicted or feel guilty. Then we must appropriate by faith the forgiveness of sins we have through Christ’s blood.
When I taught our church through Leviticus, I prepared a chart based upon the book Thus Shalt Thou Serve by C.W. Slemming. This goes through each of the five offerings, their nature, the offerer’s work, the priest’s work, God’s portion, the priest’s portion, and the offer’s portion. It also looks at Christ’s fulfillment and our life application. Here it is: The Five Levitical Offerings.
I would encourage you to take some time to study this. It will make you ever more grateful for what Jesus has done for you to put you right with God!
