Leviticus 14:1-32 “Cleansing a Healed Leper”

by

“Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘This shall be the law of the leper for the day of his cleansing…’”

Leviticus 14:1–2 (NKJV)

Why would God give instructions for what to do after being cured of an incurable disease? Only because He was making provision for the miraculous. That is what we see today as the LORD gave instructions for the leper in the day of his cleansing. These were not instructions for how to be cured but rather what to do after you were cured. By following these instructions, you would be pronounced “clean” by the priest and would be restored to fellowship with God and others. How wonderful this would be for the person who had been isolated for so long!

The entire procedure with the birds, running water, cedar wood, scarlet, hyssop and three sacrificial offerings pointed to the cross. The leper’s washing and shaving spoke of cleansing from sin. Then the blood and oil that were put on the leper’s right ear, right thumb, and right big toe spoke of his preparedness for service. While he was unclean, he was denied the privilege of serving the LORD, but now he could serve God alongside his brothers.

The truth is that we were all spiritual lepers. We were unclean because of our sins and separated from God and people. But when we came by faith to the cross of Jesus Christ, when we humbled ourselves and confessed our sins, when we believed that only Jesus could cure us of our disease, then the miraculous occurred. We were cured of an incurable disease! And now we have been washed in Christ’s blood and anointed with the oil of the Holy Spirit. We have fellowship with God and with the body of Christ. And we are prepared for the glorious privilege of serving the LORD!

If you were a spiritual leper who has been cleansed by Christ, then give Him praise today. And if you feel separated from God because of your sin, then know that the miraculous cure has already been given. Are you willing to receive it? Then come to the cross today and be cleansed, healed and restored in Jesus Christ. Finally, role up your sleeves and start serving the Lord. You were made whole for this!
