“Do not present an animal with defects, because the LORD will not accept it on your behalf.”
Leviticus 22:20 (NLT)
When we consider how much God has given us–life, provision, protection and grace–it is a privilege to give back to Him. We no longer have a tabernacle or temple where we can bring animal sacrifices. But God loves when we offer ourselves by giving Him our time, talent or treasure.
We love it when our children bring us something they have made for us. It may be a drawing that lacks artistic refinement, but we overlook the imperfections because we know it is the best they can do. Likewise, God looks at the motive of our heart in our expressions of worship and not merely the gifts themselves. Are we offering Him our best?
“Do not bring shame on my holy name, for I will display my holiness among the people of Israel. I am the LORD who makes you holy.”
Leviticus 22:32 (NLT)
We observe three rules in Leviticus 22 for what we bring to God:
- It should cost us something.
- We should give it willingly.
- It should be the best we have to offer (without defects).
What is the best I can give to the Lord today for all He has given me?
