Leviticus 23:23-44 “The LORD’s Feasts Part 2”

by

“And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation.”

Leviticus 23:23–24 (ESV)

Today we look at the last three feasts for Israel. It is interesting how each of the seven feasts corresponds to a different prophetic event. The first four feasts that we covered yesterday correspond with Christ’s crucifixion (Passover), our cleansing from sin (Unleavened Bread), Christ’s resurrection (Firstfruits), and the birth of the Church (Pentecost).

The first day of the seventh month was known as the Feast of Trumpets. According to Jewish tradition, a new month begins when two witnesses see the crescent after a new moon. This year on the Jewish calendar the Feast of Trumpets begins at sundown on September 15 and ends at nightfall on September 17. This is also known as Rosh Hashanah, and it begins the Jewish civil new year.

Now we believe that the next significant event on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture of the Church. This could occur at any time. Many scholars believe that to fulfill the feast “type” or foreshadowing, the Rapture will occur during the Feast of Trumpets. If they are correct, then this would be an excellent year for the Rapture to happen!

“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

1 Corinthians 15:51–52 (NKJV)

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 (NKJV)

Notice that we are to comfort one another with these words. The hope of the Rapture should bring comfort to our souls–especially as we see things in the world getting worse. Let us not despair but look up, knowing that our redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28). But if the Rapture strikes fear in your heart, then maybe you aren’t ready to meet the Lord. We should watch and pray always so that we may be considered worthy to escape the terrible things that will be coming on the earth during the Tribulation (Luke 21:36).

You can change your life today simply by turning from your sins and asking Jesus to forgive you and come into your life. If you do know Jesus, then don’t let yourself get so burdened down with the conditions of this world that you forget to look up. We have never been closer to the Rapture of the Church than we are right now!
