Numbers 3:27-51 “The Levites Part 2”

by

“When Moses and Aaron counted the Levite clans at the LORD’s command, the total number was 22,000 males one month old or older.”

Numbers 3:39 (NLT)

Out of all twelve tribes of Israel, God chose the Levites to belong to Him. They were tasked with the responsibility of ministering to the LORD and to the people. They were given great privilege and responsibility.

We see that God is a very exacting businessman. He took the Levites in place of the firstborn of Israel. There were 22,273 firstborn in Israel, but only 22,000 Levites. Therefore, the children of Israel had to pay 5 shekels per person for the extra 273 men. The money that was collected went to Aaron and his sons. This was a one-time collection. It must have been part of their “benefits” package!

Every believer in Jesus Christ has been chosen by God for a purpose. We are told in Ephesians 2:10:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

The Greek word that is translated “workmanship” is poiema [POY ay muh] from which we get our English word “poem.” We could say that God is writing our lives. We are His work of art. He has already prepared in advance the good works for us to do. The question is, are we willing to walk in them? Are we willing to submit to God and do His will?

What work has God set before you to do? Are you doing it for His glory? Ask Him to show you His unique strategy for you today and how He would have you fulfill it!
