Oneness

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” (John 17:21, NLT)

How is it that people will believe that God sent His only Son into the world? According to the words of Jesus, they will believe when they see unity in the church. Our Lord’s desire for His church is that it be the visible demonstration of the unity that exists in the triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit all in one accord.

How is this possible? It is only possible as we each abide in the Father and in the Son. When the world sees a unified church, with everyone abiding in the Father and the Son, then they will believe in the reality of Jesus.

Last night we experienced something we have not experienced in the fifteen years we have lived in Boise. Many churches came together from all over our valley to seek God for our cities with one voice. While we have been praying into this and laboring for it, words cannot describe the sense of joy, power and oneness we experienced in the Spirit. We have a great sense of hope of better things coming. We have a sense that something happened in the heavenly realms. Where brothers and sisters were worshiping in unity the Lord commanded blessing.

I don’t know where all this is leading, but I have a strong sense we are in the process of fulfilling Christ’s prayer. I am leaving now for workshops on seeking God for our cities. This afternoon’s workshops are free to anyone. Go to Treasure the Valley and follow the link for events for the schedule.

May everyone who calls upon the name of Jesus set aside the things that divide us and together seek God’s will and purpose for our valley! May He reveal to each of us our part in demonstrating the reality of Christ to our community!
