When Light Shines Down

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (James 1:17, NKJV)

There are some days when everything falls into place in such a way that there can be no doubt…God is there. Such was the case yesterday. The Lord kissed us with His grace.

At such times one realizes how little he or she is and how great God is. One also realizes the transcendent power of God’s love to heal all wounds and cleanse all infirmities. For a moment in time and space anything is possible. It is a touch of revival.

What happened? I felt a special anointing of God’s grace upon my message. Cindy was at home sick. She called me just before the service and said, “I will pray for you. It seems that when I can’t come to church, but stay home and pray, you have the best service.” The message was from Malachi 3:17: “They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.” (ESV) As I preached I felt the Lord’s love literally overflow my heart and go into the hearts of His people.

I ended early (something unusual for me). Dan Seniw, our worship leader, came up for the closing song with something to say (also unusual). “I would encourage you to look for opportunities that God gives you to share with others and say ‘Yes’ to the Lord.” Then I saw Carol Maury raise her hand. “Can I share something?” she said in her sweet, quiet voice. I motioned for her to come up to the pulpit. As a nurse she ministers care to patients, many of whom are in their last days. She shared a story of one of her patients whom she prayed for and God opened a door for her to share Christ. She said “Yes” and led the man to Christ. Later he thanked her for sharing the gospel with him. She encouraged us all to look for open doors and to say “Yes” to the Lord.

We sung the closing song and the Lord spoke to my heart to have people come forward who wanted to say “Yes”. What happened next was phenomenal. I don’t know how many responded. I only know that I had to conscript help from the elders to pray for everyone. God was breaking, transforming and healing hearts. His good and perfect gift came down from the Father of lights above. We were standing on holy ground.

On the way home I popped a CD in the car stereo that my friend Michael Roe recently gave me. The song “Dry Bones” played and my heart leapt with joy. Please listen to it and believe that His light and love is shining on us so that we can really be His light to a dark world. Jesus wants to kiss us all with His grace!
