When God Moves

I am hopeful. God is on the move. I believe that we are on the crest of the greatest revival the world has known. Jesus is coming soon. The last harvest is upon us.

At the same time things are grim in the world: politics, the economy, the environment, and an alarming number of people leaving the church. Can these seemingly contradictory truths be reconciled? It is interesting that historically great awakenings have occurred in the midst of spiritual decline. It would seem that the pendulum swings so far to godlessness when people cry out, “That’s enough!” and a spiritual revival breaks forth. At least that is what this pastor is praying for.

The men in our church have been experiencing revival. Beginning with our men’s prayer meeting Wednesday mornings at 6:00. For almost three years we have been meeting, and God has touched our hearts. Then we’ve been meeting about once a quarter at Gene Benson’s house for a Koinonia. This time of breakfast, fellowship, worship, encouragement and prayer has been Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered. I see God raising up a team of mighty men of valor who are committed to Christ and to one another. And we’re not the only ones…

God is touching the hearts of people throughout the U.S.A. to join together in intercessory prayer for our nation and in commitment to Jesus Christ and to one another. Check out Awakening America.

This week we have made a committment to fast and pray from Monday to Sunday. The reason? We believe it is time for us to move from our present location in the Hillcrest Shopping Center, and we are seeking God’s wisdom, protection and guidance in the move. But we really hope that this time of fasting and prayer will bring about a spiritual renewal in our fellowship. Revival begins when God’s people humble themselves and seek His face.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7.14, NKJV)

By God’s grace I will commit to blogging every day this week to encourage those of you who choose to join us in this spiritual adventure. Bill Bright from Campus Crusade for Christ International has written an excellent article on fasting and praying called 7 Basic Steps to Successful Fasting and Prayer. Will you join us in this endeavor? Let’s see what the Lord will do!
