In a few weeks, Americans will vote into office our next president. The morning after the election, whether the White House is red or blue, these ten things remain:
- God is on the throne.
- His executive orders (i.e. the Bible) are still in effect.
- The Kingdom of God still trumps the governments of men (pardon the pun).
- The character of Christ is still unblemished.
- Republicans and Democrats stand united as sinners in need of grace.
- Whether you live in a blue state or a red state, the same blood of Jesus cleanses your sin.
- When campaign promises are forgotten, God’s promises remain.
- God still loves America and has a plan for her.
- The solutions to our greatest problems are found through praying–not polling or politicking .
- We have a four-year reprieve from presidential campaigning (i.e. mudslinging)! (Realistically, it’s probably only a two-year reprieve.)
Over the next few weeks and beyond, let us meditate on these words of Jesus:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
