Yesterday in my Sunday message, I addressed the coronavirus pandemic and mentioned that we are starting 14 days of prayer and fasting until Easter.
Salvation and Strength through the Crisis
We believe in the power of prayer and fasting. Now more than ever, we need God’s help! Fortunately, we also have His promise:
“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13–14)
If ever our nation needed healing, it is now. We believe that God has called us to “stand in the gap” (Ezekiel 22:30-31) by fasting and praying. This may mean that we humble ourselves and confess our own sins and the sins of our nation. But it also means that we thank God for His tender mercies and for the resurrection hope we have in Jesus Christ.
How do we fast? Here are some great suggestions from Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ).
How you fast is between you and God. You may fast a meal, a day, or several days. You may fast from media for a time. (With all the negativity in the news, this may be a good idea to really focus on God.) The idea is to set aside the appetites of the body to be alone with God–to commune, listen and pray.
Who knows what would happen to change our nation and bring an end to this pandemic if we all cry out to God with one voice?
