Exodus 14:1-20 “Miracle at the Red Sea Part 1”

“And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.’”

Exodus 14:13–14 (ESV)

If you could decide between comfort and conflict, which would you choose? I think most of us would choose comfort. But in any good story, conflict is essential. The protagonist overcomes some conflict; the plot reaches a climax; and then it resolves. The children of Israel overcoming Pharaoh at the Red Sea is such a story.

After they left Egypt, the LORD led the children of Israel with a cloudy pillar by day and a fiery pillar by night. He brought them to a place where there were mountains on two sides and the sea on the other. The only way out was the way they came in. In other words, they were trapped. They were sitting ducks in duck season!

To make matters worse, Pharaoh decided he erred in letting the Hebrews go. He took 600 chariots, his horsemen, and his army, and pursued them with vengeance. When the children of Israel saw the army approaching, they panicked! Have you ever been in such a place of terror that you didn’t know if you would survive?

Moses calmed the people by telling them to stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD. They were God’s chosen people. He had led them into this situation, and He would rescue them. With ten plagues, a mighty hand, and an outstretched arm, God had delivered them from Pharaoh’s grasp. He wasn’t about to abandon them now! They only needed to stand still and trust Him, and He would take care of the rest.

When you are in a desperate situation and disaster seems imminent, remind yourself that you belong to God. He redeemed you from your sins with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He is not about to lose you now! Can you believe that God loves you and has a glorious plan to deliver you from all harm? It’s true! You may be uncomfortable now, but God is in control, and the battle belongs to Him. He will glorify His name and lift you up to higher ground. Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and know that He is God!
