“I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.”
Numbers 11:17 (NKJV)
Moses was at the limit of what he could endure. He felt as though he was bearing the entire weight of the congregation of Israel. He told the LORD that if this was the way it was going to be, to take his life so that he would be spared seeing his own wretchedness. God wasn’t ready to “take him home”, but He would provide Moses with some help to bear the burden of the people.
The best of men and women have limitations and are prone to weakness. But having other people around us who will help bear the burden enables us to keep serving without burning out. But we must be willing to delegate responsibility without feeling threatened and without complaining that others are not doing it as well as we would do it.
God graciously took of the Spirit that was on Moses and placed Him on the seventy elders. Then they were equipped to serve with Moses in the power of the Holy Spirit.
When we feel weary, we can go to God. Yes there are times when we must patiently endure. But there are also times when God will provide more help. Either way, He will always give us more grace.
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
Psalm 50:15 (NKJV)
Do you need help bearing your burdens? Then begin by crying out to God. His mercy is great toward those who love Him and who call upon His name. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. As a pastor, I delight in seeing God raise up others and equip them to do the work of the ministry. This is a burden meant to be joyfully shared.
