What can God do with a fully surrendered life?

“The priesthood shall be theirs for a perpetual statute. So you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons.”

Exodus 29:9 (NKJV)

My grandmother used to tell me, “Daryl, it’s all about consecration.” She was a great example to me of someone who lived a consecrated life. She taught Sunday School for forty years, but she wanted to do more for the Lord. So she started knocking on doors in the low-income district of North Portland, Oregon. She invited children to an afternoon Sunday School at her church. This grew to about 250 children every Sunday afternoon. The church had to purchase seven buses to transport them!

Today we see the steps required for Aaron and his sons to be consecrated to serve the LORD. The Hebrew word implies that their hands would be filled with God’s work. To be fit for this duty, they first had to be washed and anointed with oil. Then a bull was sacrificed as a sin offering, a ram as a burnt offering, and another ram as a consecration offering. All this was necessary to prepare them to minister to the LORD.

Under the new covenant, these sacrifices have been provided for us at Calvary. But we must choose to believe in Jesus Christ and be consecrated (set apart, dedicated) to the LORD. The apostle Paul wrote:

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Romans 12:1 (ESV)

In view of God’s amazing mercies in sending His only Son to die for our sins, the least we can do is to offer ourselves back to Him. He does not require us to be perfect before He uses us. He receives us in Christ, washes, and sets us apart. But we must also present our bodies to Him. Then He anoints us with His Spirit and uses us to minister to others. You don’t have to be a professional minister to experience this. God can use you in any walk of life. He just requires your consecration. Are you willing?
