Super Hero

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21, NKJV)

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that we live in an evil world. Terrorists blow themselves up to hurt others. Parents neglect or abuse children to get their next “fix”. People release poisonous words into the atmosphere that pollute and destroy.

How do we fight this evil?

The sad truth is that in the search for evil we don’t have to look any further than our own hearts. The apostle Paul said:

“I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.” (Romans 7:21)

We cannot fight evil with evil. That will only escalate until we are destroyed by the very evil we have sown. If we bite and devour one another, we will consume one another. Rather, the only way to overcome evil is with good. Good is Omnipotent.

So when we are tempted to give up, lash out, let a zinger fly, punch out lights, or any other evil response to the wrongs people have done, ask yourself the question, “How can I overcome this evil with good?” It will cost you something, but that’s the price of being a Super Hero.
