The End Is Here (Rev 1.1)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place.” (Revelation 1:1, NKJV)

From the first time I saw the movie The Time Machine (1960) I have been interested in time travel. If only we knew what the future holds. Think of the investments we could make!

But that is exactly what we have in the book of Revelation. God draws back the curtain to show us exactly what is going to happen. God actually transported John to the end of the age, so he could see things that are yet to be and then report back to us! This isn’t science fiction but spiritual reality.

As I type this the Boise State Broncos just intercepted a pass to return it for the first touchdown of the Fiesta Bowl. By the time you read this everyone will know the outcome of the game. But God sees past, present and future as one panoramic picture. God is the one who was, who is, and who is to come (Rev 1.8). When He reveals the future we can certainly believe it, since He’s already seen it.

Now the revelation is of Jesus Christ. We see Him as He appears in glory and as He will appear when He returns as King of kings and Lord of lords. God revealed these things to Jesus, and He has revealed them to us. God has shown us the last chapter of history so that we can all be ready and escape the wrath to come.

As I embark upon this study, I have the chilling thought that someone may read this at a future date after the church has been caught up into heaven. If that is you, reader, then this blog takes on an epic significance. Your knowledge of the Revelation that God gave to John may make the difference of where you spend eternity. Even though you have been left behind, all hope is not lost. You are facing the worst times that have ever come upon this old world. But be of good courage for “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Joel 2.30-32). You may want to skip ahead to Revelation 7 where we see a multitude that comes out of the great tribulation, having washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb. Study this entire Revelation, for in it you will find life, hope and courage in the midst of devastation.

For those who read this while the church is still here, you can avoid all this, but you must WAKE UP! The end is upon us. Are you ready? If you continue to live as you have this past week would you be ready to meet Him? He’s coming soon as a thief in the night for those who are watchful, ready and living for Him.
