“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1
How did we get here? What is the origin of the universe? The above verse answers these questions if we believe. In fact, it shapes our entire worldview. At the center of all things is an intelligent and powerful being who made us by His will and for His purpose. Life becomes a quest of discovering our purpose and destiny. On the other hand, if we don’t believe, then we must conclude that we are a cosmic accident—the result of random instances of favorable circumstances over billions of years. We have no ultimate purpose except to do whatever pleases us and hope that we’re not wrong about God. Therefore, we could say that Genesis 1:1 is the continental divide of two very diverse worldviews.
We begin our study of the entire Bible by looking at the origin of the universe from the perspective of the only One who witnessed it.
